Punk Rock Pie Recipe

24102010062

With some left over mince, i decided to try my hand at making a pie. It actually tasted so good i decided to do a recipe.

You'll need

  • 100g of Mince (I prefer Quorn Mince, as im a vegetarian, but meat will also work)

  • 1 Medium Carrot

  • 1 Medium Tomato

  • Quarter of a tin of Plum Tomatos (Finely Chopped)

  • 1 Medium red onion

First of all, start by chopping up the tomato, the tinned tomato and the red onion. I prefer to grate the carrot. Then add this to the mince, mix up and cook. I also like to experiment with herbs and spices so i mixed in with these ingrediants, 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic, a small handful of finely chopped basil, a dash of Tumeric and Safferon and a healthy slog of paprika, with a dash of salt and pepper to boot. Of course you do not need to do this but i feel it helps.

You should know how to make pastry so do this while the mix is cooking. Use a suitable sized over proof dish and line with pastry, wait a few mins after you take the mix out before adding to the pastry, then apply how much pie filling you want before applying the lid. I suggest filling it to the brim so the pastry lid does not sink into the pie.

With any spare pastry, which i had lots of. Decorate the pie. I decided a punk rock theme and suitabally applied The Dead Kennedys logo upon the pie. Lightly brush with milk to allow it to brown in the oven. Then place it a pre-heated over at 200 for around 20 mins until golden brown.

Then eat.
